Every tonne of freight carried by rail has around 70 per cent fewer emissions than road freight. We’re working hard to further reduce our footprint by saving on the amount of fuel used by KiwiRail trains. Since we introduced the Driver Advisory System onboard our locomotives we’ve used 13.5 per cent less fuel to date, contributing to a total energy cost saving across our business of more than $2.8m every year.
