Grant Green was born on June 6, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Green’s father taught him to play the guitar in grade school. He began his professional career at age 13, joining a gospel group. He played R&B and blues gigs in and around his hometown of St. Louis, which shaped his signature style of single-note playing.
