The Dallas Cowboys had to make one of the hardest decisions of Jerry Jones' ownership when they decided not to renew McCarthy's contract before Tuesday's deadline.  This was the right move, regardless of McCarthy's pedigree and success in the NFL-- even in Dallas.

Mike McCarthy will not return as coach of the Dallas Cowboys, who are going on three decades since their last Super Bowl title, owner Jerry Jones said Monday. Jones said the organization and McCarthy mutually agreed to part ways.

McCarthy spent six years in the college ranks before he broke into the NFL in 1993 on Marty Schottenheimer’s Kansas City staff as a quality control coach. He was a quarterback coach for the Chiefs and Green Bay Packers before leaving to become the offensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints in 2000.
