Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 322, creating the offense of grooming to protect minors from sexual abuse.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed nearly 30 bills Wednesday, including legislation that would require schools to notify parents if the child identifies as LGBTQ+ as well as allow parents to opt out of so-called “sexuality” content.

Republican Gov. Mike DeWine signed into law Wednesday H.B. 8, officially named the so-called "Parents' Bill of Rights" but colloquially known as the "Don't Say Gay" bill for its similarities to Florida's 2022 law. DeWine signed the legislation behind closed doors, despite signing another bill into law in front of news cameras the same day.

House Bill 8 requires districts to create mandatory religious instruction release time policies and compels educators to out a student's sexuality to their parents.

Under House Bill 8, school officials will have to tell parents if their child asks to be identified by a different gender or is exposed to explicit content.

Parents, not government bureaucrats, should be making healthcare and education decisions for their kids,’ a proponent of the law says.

The bills DeWine signed include a so-called “Parents’ Bill of Rights” that requires school officials to notify parents if their child asks a teacher to identify them by a different gender.
