Not sure if we’ve eulogized Uecker in the proper, broadest light and brightest light. He was a national treasure, first and foremost, as a cherished deadpan comedian, up there with Bob Newhart’s downbeat deliveries and Buster Keaton’s blank face.

Brewers team principal owner Mark Attanasio said there are plans in the works for ways to honor Bob Uecker, including a big celebration in summer.

As a catcher for the Milwaukee Braves, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies, Uecker hit .200 with 14 home runs. As a Brewers catcher in the mid-2000s, Chad Moeller hit .204 with 14 home runs. In Uecker, Moeller said on Thursday, he found a friend who could needle him with sweetness.

The City of Janesville announced Monday a day set aside to remember “Mr. Baseball.” Tuesday in Janesville is officially “Bob Uecker Day” in remembrance of the baseball broadcasting legend, who passed away last week.
