The man suspected of killing one Minnesota lawmaker and wounding another is now charged with murder after police arrested him Sunday near his home after a nearly two-day search.

The family dog of Melissa Hortman, the Minnesota lawmaker shot to death in her home alongside her husband, Mark Hortman, has died after injuries sustained in the weekend attack. Helping Paws, an animal non-profit outside Minneapolis, said the golden retriever, Gilbert, did not survive the attack.

Prosecutors say the man charged with killing one Minnesota lawmaker and wounding another had dozens of apparent targets, including officials in at least three other states.
