A beloved bald eagle who gained popularity after incubating a rock is mourned after dying from head trauma sustained during violent storms in Missouri last week.

Murphy the bald eagle was found dead on March 15. Veterinary experts say he suffered some type of head trauma during a storm. He was 33.

In Murphy’s mind, his egg had hatched. He began feeding the baby bird and teaching him how to become an adult eagle. Though he was officially known as Eaglet 23-126, the eaglet widely became known, of course, as Rocky. In July, 2023, Rocky was successfully released into the wild.
