Paul Tazewell took home the coveted gold statue for Best Costume Design for his work on “Wicked.” He is the first Black man to win the award.

"We kind of knew he had talent, but we didn't have an idea of the level of genius," says Linda Brown, Tazewell's aunt.

“I’m the first Black man to receive the costume design ... which made her the first African American to win in the category. Carter became the first Black woman to win two Oscars in 2023.
