A suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting that killed a 9-year-old boy in Newark, law enforcement announced. The alleged shooter was identified as Jesse Dunbar II, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday morning.

The man who was arrested, Jesse J. Dunbar II, also faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. The office said he was “also charged with shooting an adult male,” but did not say whether that referred to the 36-year-old.

Dunbar II has been charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses tied to the incident in Newark's South Ward on Jan. 31.

Jesse Dunbarr, 36, is now facing first-degree murder charges in the death of 9-year-old Yasin Morrison. The child's grandparents say Friday evening, their son was dropping Yasin and his 3-year-old sister off at their house on Osborne Terrace to spend the weekend.
