Ever since Feb. 3, 2023, residents of East Palestine have struggled with serious health conditions that were nonexistent before the derailment.

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio — Two years after a Norfolk Southern train derailment spewed a toxic cloud that drove thousands from their homes, freight trains with the same chemicals central to that disaster roll through town — with few steps taken by lawmakers to prevent another disaster.

It’s been two years since a Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, by the Pennsylvania border, and industrial chemicals contaminated the community, making hundreds of residents sick.
