Eala pulled off an almighty upset in her win over Tauson, who currently sits an impressive 16th in the WTA rankings. Compared to Eala, who is yet to claim a tournament victory, Tauson has three titles to her name -- with the most recent coming at the Auckland Open back in January.

Eala, 20, became the first Filipino player in the Open Era to win a singles match in a Grand Slam main draw. She beat No. 14 seed Clara Tauson in three sets, 6–3, 2–6, 7–6 (13–11). At one point in the last set, Eala trailed 1–5.

Alex Eala battles Spanish netter Cristina Bucsa in the second round of the 2025 US Open on Wednesday (Philippine time) in New York. The 20-year-old Eala is coming off a maiden win in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.
