The Yankees made their first trade deadline move on Friday, acquiring a third baseman for two minor-league pitchers.
The New York Yankees reportedly acquired former Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon, which impacts other players on the roster.
Donovan, 28, was named to his first All-Star team this season and is hitting .296 with nine home runs and 42 RBI over 96 games. He won a Gold Glove in 2022, the first year utility players had their own category, when he played all four infield positions, LF, RF, and DH.
Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz is among those that the Yankees have checked in on, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Heyman reports that the Yankees have talked to the Pirates about the slugger, but the price is said to be “steep.”
