The new two-mile-long bridge Key Bridge in Baltimore will be longer and higher than its 1970s-era steel arch continuous truss predecessor. Maryland officials have debuted the initial design concept for the Francis Scott Key Bridge rebuild—a two-mile-long cable-stayed structure that will be the first of its kind in the state.

Nearly a year ago, a cargo ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge and triggered a collapse that killed six construction workers.

The new bridge will be steel, held up by cables connected to two towers. It will be 45-feet higher than the old bridge, at 230 feet, and accommodate larger ships.
