A US court has agreed to fast-track Apple’s appeal of an injunction that forces it to allow developers to link to external payment options from within their apps, but declined to pause the injunction in the short term.
The comeback appeared in jeopardy after Apple initially refused to approve Fortnite’s bid before Apple relented this week, clearing the app for U.S. users. It’s also back in the European Union, where alternative app marketplaces have been mandated since last year.
The move also appears to violate the Digital Markets Act, the legislation that required Apple to permit third-party payment options in the first place. The DMA does not allow the use scare screens to dissuade people from using external payment options, as this would qualify as an illegal anti-steering measure.
