Eala, 20, became the first Filipino player in the Open Era to win a singles match in a Grand Slam main draw. She beat No. 14 seed Clara Tauson in three sets, 6–3, 2–6, 7–6 (13–11). At one point in the last set, Eala trailed 1–5.

Alexandra Eala produced a jaw-dropping late comeback to carve out a piece of tennis history at the US Open on Sunday, becoming the first player from the Philippines to win a Grand Slam singles match with a first-round upset of Danish 14th seed Clara Tauson.

Eala pulled off an almighty upset in her win over Tauson, who currently sits an impressive 16th in the WTA rankings. Compared to Eala, who is yet to claim a tournament victory, Tauson has three titles to her name -- with the most recent coming at the Auckland Open back in January.
