Sources added that, while talks are not at an advanced stage, Pogba is aware of the situation and contact has been made between D.C. United general manager Ally Mackay and the former Manchester United star's entourage. Pogba has been without a club since his contract was terminated by Juventus last November.

Pogba, 32, has been eligible to return to competitive soccer since March after serving an 18-month ban for an anti-doping violation.

Pogba, a 6-foot-3 central midfielder, is also believed to be exploring opportunities in Europe and the Middle East. He is expected to decide in the coming weeks.
