Residents and officials in the disputed Kashmir region say there was overnight border fighting between Pakistani and Indian troops, despite a ceasefire to stop a conflict between the two countries.

The ceasefire has halted what some analysts say was the most serious fighting between the two countries since a 1971 war. But India's recent suspension of a key water-sharing treaty remains in place.

Hours after the cease-fire was confirmed, there were accusations that the agreement was not being entirely upheld.
