The Yankees are acquiring right-handed reliever Jake Bird form the Rockies, a source confirmed to the Daily News on Thursday. The pre-trade deadline deal will send prospects Roc Riggio and Ben Shields to Colorado. Bird marks the Yankees’ second bullpen upgrade, as they previously agreed to a deal for Pirates closer David Bednar.

That could have been the soundtrack for pitchers David Bednar and Jake Bird, two relievers on last-place teams who ran into each other unexpectedly in the Denver airport early Friday morning and boarded a flight to Miami to join the Yankees, who acquired them at the trade deadline Thursday.

David Bednar is 2-5 with 17 saves and a 2.37 ERA this season. Camilo Doval is a fireballer who averages 98.1 mph.
