Jean Smart will return to Broadway this summer in a one-woman show. Smart, the Emmy Award-winning star of Hacks, will star in the world premiere of the dark comedy Call Me Izzy, written by Jamie Wax and directed by Sarna Lapine. The play will run at Studio 54 starting May 24, with an opening night June 12.

Broadway is about to get Smart. The cultural dominance of Jean Smart in the past few years has largely taken place on HBO, which she began taking over in 2019 with Watchmen and over which she has ruled since the 2021 debuts of Mare of Easttown and,

Smart will star in “Call Me Izzy,” a dark comedy about a rural Louisiana woman. The play, which has not been previously staged, is written by Jamie Wax, a CBS News contributor, and is directed by Sarna Lapine, who also directed the last Broadway revival of “Sunday in the Park With George.”
