A large wildfire south-east of Athens continued to burn on Saturday morning, with strong winds fanning the flames. Greek media reported that the fire brigade has the situation largely under control, with a large-scale operation involving several firefighting helicopters and planes ongoing since the early morning.

Three people died as gale-force winds hit Greece, fanning the flames of a wildfire close to the capital. More strong winds are expected in the area, which could further exacerbate blazes in several regions.

A fire that broke out to the south of the country on Friday had burned some 10,000 acres of brush and forest.
